Book 1 is written for the beginner or for someone who wants to start over and get back to basics. This book covers simple standard rhythm patterns and some drum fills and then gradually moves onto ones which are more challenging. Included in the book are some great songs, with vocals, to play along to, a page of coordination training and an introduction to rudiments. There are also pages on note values, terms and meanings, performance directions and much more. This book is fun and easy to use and, like all of the books, it comes with a CD that feature all of the exercises and songs. (Rockschool Grade 1 level)
Book 2 is for the drummer who wants to learn lots of different types of rhythms and fills and wants to start to develop their playing. There are songs to play along to as well as quarter, eighth and sixteenth note patterns. This book also includes some open hi-hat rhythms as well as containing a page of coordination exercises and 2 pages of rudiments. (Rockschool Grade 2 level)
Book 3 is for the serious player who is ready to develop more skills and move onto playing jazz, shuffle and odd time signatures, which are crucial as a foundation for all styles of drumming. There are more great songs in different styles as well as over 90 exercises, some coordination training and 3 pages of rudiments. (Rockschool Grade 3 level)
Book 4 is about drum fills and accents, which help define a drummer's ability. It is for the player who wants to show command over this instrument and develop stick control. With well over 90 exercises, some time-keeping exercises, 4 pages of rudiments and some full length songs with vocals, this book is sure to challenge but is also fun at the same time. (Rockschool Grade 4 level)
Book 5, the final book in the series, includes some complex cymbal bell and hi-hat patterns and some great rhythms and fills. There are some really good challenging full-length songs to perform as well as 32 rudiments. The songs in this book are definitely set to challenge! There is a Latin track, a serious metal track and a song builder which will help you to find the right drum pattern to fit to a song. After these 5 books you will be ready to move onto books such as Rockschool, your level of playing and what you have covered in these books will fast-track you to start at Rockschool Grade 5.
